I dream of departures, meetings,

repeated weddings with a stranger, wounded

with knives and bandaged, his

face hidden

All night my gentle husband

sits alone in the corner

of a grey arena, guarding

a paper bag

which holds

turnips and apples and my

head, the eyes closed

The country beneath

the earth has a green sun

and the rivers flow backwards;

the trees and rocks are the same

as they are here, but shifted.
